Pyromescent

Pyromescent

INTUMESCENT FIRE PROOFING COATING*

Pyromescent is a one-part, water based intumescent coating similar in appearance to ordinary latex base paint. Upon exposure to flame or heat, it immediately foams and swells (intumesces) providing an effective non-combustible insulation and heat shield to protect the subsurface. Pyromescent also cures to a durable, mold-resistant protective coating for the long-lasting protection of most construction materials.

*Treated Articles Exemption – This product contains an EPA registered antimicrobial to protect the coating from non-public health fungi and odor causing bacteria. No public health claims are being made.

Safety Data Sheet
Product Label

An intumescent fire and mold-resistant paint that can be used for structural fire protection or as a protective architectural finish paint. Available in white or black.

PREVENTS THERMAL TRANSFER

When heated, Pyromescent forms a thick char layer on whatever it’s protecting and it acts like insulation. This prevents the combustion of materials it’s protecting and also prevents the combustion of materials in an adjacent room!

USES

Probable areas of use include finished basements, attics, wall cavities, building envelopes and walls.

SURFACES

Pyromescent protects most construction materials including treated and untreated lumber, OSB, particle board, masonry surfaces, concrete, brick, wallboard, composite construction materials and metals. Surfaces also include sheathing, trusses, framing, joists, plates, pillars, posts, beams and walls.

FEATURES/BENEFITS

  • Opaque white for covering or hiding stained surfaces;
  • Breathable to prevent wet/dry rot conditions;
  • Passes Class A fire protection standards;
  • Prevents mold/algae/bacteria growth on the coating surface.

APPLICATIONS

Pyromescent is formulated as a ready- to-use coating and should not be diluted. It can be applied with a brush, roller or airless sprayer to obtain an even finish. Do not apply past the point of run- off. A cross-hatching technique is the best way to ensure sufficient wet/dry film thickness and complete coverage.

COVERAGE RATE

Up to 160 sq. ft. per gallon, based upon product warranty and/or building code requirements based upon standardized testing. Does not include loss from over-spray or over-use.

EcoSafe

  • Water-based and Non-toxic
  • Low VOC’s and LEED compliant to meet IEQ Credit 4.2
  • Contains no organometallic compounds
  • Non-reactive to metals composites and plastics
  • Resists leaching and is non-persistent in the environment

Proven

  • Provides 72 seconds of protection for every applied wet mil.
  • Exceeds NFPA 1715 test requirements
  • Exceeds E-84 and E-84 Extended testing for flame spread rate
  • Exceeds E-119 for Wall Assemblies, Floor Assemblies and Ceiling Assemblies
  • Exceeds D-5590 testing for fungal resistance

Powerful

  • Doubles the time to get out of a building and to safety
  • Limits damage by controlling flame spread in a building
  • Blocks stains and seals odors on wood, wallboard and other semi-porous surfaces
  • Can be an ignition or thermal barrier on 2-part foam insulation or wall, ceiling and floor assemblies
  • Acts as a barrier to moisture to prevent moisture content increases

Priced Right

  • 10% to 20% less per 5 gallon bucket
  • 15% to 30% less when applied to product warranty standards
